Hey I am Steph and I am a first time mum with a 15mth old daughter. We live in the United Kingdom with her dad. I was induced at 38weeks due to medical reasons and she was born a happy and healthy baby weighing 7lbs 3oz in April 2015.
My daughter has just recently been told she has a Soya and Dairy allergy. We have known from when she was about a week old that something was not quite right with her. The doctors, health visitor and community midwifes were all saying it was nothing and it was my overprotective nature as a mother causing the issue. So Alisha was given expressed breastmilk with SMA first stage milk for the first month to month and a half until my milk supply dried up as she refused to latch from day one. So we continued with the SMA milk. Once she was fully on the formula milk that's when everything got worse. She started to bring up half of her bottle at her feeds which resulted in both of us getting changed into clean clothes if we both got covered in vomit. Between vomiting and explosive nappies my washing machine was constantly on the go everyday or every second day with all our dirty clothes. At four months old she was starting to have dermatitis on her face and back and also pass blood in her stools and the doctors thought I was making it all up so the GP told me to bring her in to check her over and I was told she was all ok and to go home and stop panicking.
When weaning started at five and a half months (due to her not drinking her milk) we started to have a bit of a break from all the explosive nappies and vomiting as she was eating mushed up solids like bananas and avocado. A few months into weaning it all started again with the explosive nappies and blood. So we took her back to the GP and again we got the same reply. A few weeks later we took her back as it was getting worse and I literally could not cope with it. Same reply. A month later we seen a different GP and we finally were listened too and were referred to the Paediatrician.
Since the referral to the Paediatrician we have found out she has a dairy allergy at 13months old. Alisha had been on the soya milk (Alpro Junior 1-3year old) with the soya alternatives to yoghurt and cheese. After about a month to a month and a half she just started to be really poorly again and had started to loose weight. We had her next paediatric appointment pulled forward after a night in the observation unit as she had not drank or ate anything all day and had projectile vomited whilst with the childminder. We were told to stick to a dairy and soya free diet as she has shown symptoms of an acute to medium allergy to both foods.
Now 3weeks later we are now experiencing the same symptoms but to a mild extent to when she was a small baby and before stopping the soya. So we are back to square one into finding out what is causing the symptoms again. I am trying to get an appointment to see a paediatric allergist but from speaking to a dad of a 3 year old who has a massive list of things she cannot eat including dairy, nuts and gluten there is none in our area as they had left a year ago and no one has took over his position. So we are trying to get an allergy test done now to see if it can give us any indications into what she is allergic to or has an intolerance to.
